    Now is a good time to mention the Rally University, which is full of lots of answers for first-timers and new-to-NASA folks:

    For some of the biggest differences compared to what you may be used to, I'll start with these:

    -At registration, you don't need to show your insurance papers at all, for your race car or service vehicle. Instead you just sign that all of that is properly squared away.

    -The timing system is a little different, it runs from when you start the stage, not finish it. (plus a little twist if you go over the bogey, so you always get full transit time) Here's more explanation and examples:

    -Servicing in a control is much more relaxed. You can't start swapping wheels, but little stuff like zip ties, opening up the hood and looking in, tightening a bolt, checking something in the trunk, that's all allowed. If you have time, of course.
